The undergraduate program in Field Crops admitted its first students in the 1982–1983 academic year, during its affiliation with Trakya University. In the same academic year, the department also launched a master’s program, followed by a doctoral program in 1986–1987. During its time under Trakya University, the department graduated 714 undergraduate, 106 master’s, and 25 doctoral students. After becoming a part of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, it has produced 128 graduates from the Field Crops sub-program of the Agricultural Engineering undergraduate program, 231 graduates from the Department of Field Crops, 122 master’s, and 32 doctoral graduates.
With a particular focus on addressing the agricultural challenges of the Tekirdağ and Thrace regions, our department carries out research and educational activities in the following areas: cultivation and breeding of cereals and edible legumes, industrial crops, forage crops and pasture-meadow plants, plant breeding, plant biotechnology, plant physiology, plant ecology, seed science and technology, organic agriculture, turf and green space crops, energy crops, and medicinal and aromatic plants. These studies position our department as a significant academic unit in the region.
We are proud that our graduates, equipped with solid academic knowledge and professional experience, are highly sought after by both the private sector and public institutions. Their preference as qualified professionals in various agricultural sectors brings us great satisfaction.
In light of this information, we would be delighted to welcome prospective students to pursue undergraduate and graduate education in the field of Field Crops.
