The Department of Field Crops, which was established as one of the four departments of Trakya University Tekirdağ
Faculty of Agriculture in accordance with the regulation and bylaw numbered 41 on July 20, 1982, was connected to Namık Kemal University in 2006 with the establishment of this university.
In the year it was established, our department, consisting of 8 academic staff including the founding dean and founding department head Prof. Dr. Sezen Şehirali, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Atakişi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Temel Gençtan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Servet Tekeli, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kayıhan Z. Korkut, Res. Asst. Adnan Orak, Res. Asst. Nezihi Sağlam and Res. Asst. A. Canan Sezer, continues its education and training activities with 15 academic staff including 10 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor and 1 Research Assistant.
Our department, which started accepting students for the Field Crops undergraduate program in the 1982-1983 Academic Year under the auspices of Trakya University, opened master's programs in the same academic year and doctoral programs in the 1986-1987 academic year. Our department, which graduated 714 undergraduate, 106 graduate and 25 doctoral students during the period it was affiliated with Trakya University, also graduated 128 from the Field Crops Sub-Degree Program of the Agricultural Engineering Undergraduate Program, 231 from the Field Crops Department, 122 from the Master's and 32 from the Doctoral programs under the auspices of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University.
Our department, which carries out studies on Cereals and Food Grain Legumes Cultivation and Breeding, Industrial Plants Cultivation and Breeding, Meadow-Pasture and Forage Plants Cultivation and Breeding, Plant Breeding, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Plant Ecology, Seed Science and Technology, Organic Agriculture, Green Field Plants, Energy Plants, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, has an important position in terms of the region, especially in a way that sheds light on the problems of Tekirdağ and Thrace Region.
